Hackney Half in memory of Ben

Story

In January last year, my good friend Ben was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer at the age of 36.  After fighting a hell of a good fight for six months, he peacefully passed away in July.

The last five weeks of his life were spent at the Sue Ryder Hospice at Leckhampton Court, Cheltenham, and the care he received whilst being there was second to none. The staff were incredible and quite honestly an inspiration. Their involvement in making the hospice Ben’s home as well as the care and attention they gave his family, especially his 2 year old daughter Erin, was heart-warming.

So to that end, I am running the Hackney Half Marathon in May to raise money for this wonderful cause, so that other patients and families are able to benefit from the fantastic care Ben, his wife Sami and the rest of his family received.

To give you an insight into how valuable your donations are, here's some running costs for the hospice. Please use these as your motives behind a donation as every penny really does count:
* £19 pays for one hour hospice care
* £140 pays for the cost of a nurse for a day
* £150 pays for a working bag with all the kit in for a Hospice at home nurse
* £500 pays for a bed for a day of inpatient care
* £3000 could pay for a hospice nurse for a month

I would love to hit my £600 target to help contribute to the astonishing fundraising Sami has done so far for the Hospice.

So please dig deep, and in Ben's words... "Go hard or go home".

Lottie xx
