For the last 5 weeks of Ben's life we were truly blessed to have been at Leckhampton Court Hospice.  A magical and inspirational place, where Ben went to LIVE! Where we could be a young family, laugh and have fun …. and so much fun was had! Those memories are priceless and we cannot thank all the staff there enough for enabling us to have that time together. 

So just as Ben has always done we want to continue to think of others and find the positive. When I spoke to Ben about fundraising he said 'babe lets go big or go home!'. So in true Sykes style, family and friends are taking on various challenges over the coming months to try and raise an overall fundraising total of least £17,000 if we can. This is roughly what it would have cost to provide our family with the exceptional specialist care and support during the final weeks of his life. The aim is to ensure we can help at least one other family to create their own priceless memories.  

So team Flip Flop are taking on the Starlight Hike across Cheltenham in memory of Ben, and all of those who have been touched by the hospice. Now the challenge for this is not so much the walking but the fact that we will all have to stay up until 9pm to do it...no mean feat for a team made up with sleep deprived parents of toddlers!

For this challenge, we would love for each member of our 12 strong team to raise £140. This is the cost of a nurse for a day. The cost to have one of the most caring and exceptional people you could ever hope to have by your bedside at this time in your life.  

To put into perspective how valuable your donations are, here's some running costs for the hospice. Please use these as your motives behind a donation as every penny really does count.

* £19 pays for one hour hospice care

*£140 pays for the cost of a nurse for a day

* £150 pays for a working bag with all the kit in for a Hospice at home nurse

*£500 pays for a bed for a day of inpatient care

* £3000 could pay for a hospice nurse for a month
